MEET JUMA

*Juma’s journey is one of hardship, resilience, and hope.

In 2020, Juma and his brother set out in search of their biological mother, longing for the connection they had lost. Instead, they found themselves lost in the vast city of Nairobi, hundreds of miles from home. Vulnerable and alone in an unfamiliar environment, they were taken into juvenile remand and later transferred back to their local Remand Centre. For two young boys, this experience was deeply frightening, as they were placed in an institution for an unknown period, alongside children in conflict with the law.

A few months later, Juma was referred to our team, who are always vigilant in identifying children in situations like his, those who have been incarcerated or are in holding with little to no resources to help them return home. Our team worked tirelessly to reunite him with his family. He returned home to his father and siblings, and with our ongoing support from our Community of Defenders, he was able to re-enrol in school.

Life remains challenging, but our team continues to provide guidance and support, helping the family navigate difficulties and grow stronger—while the search for their mother continues. But Juma has been supported away from a life on the streets and a childhood in remand, giving him the chance to rebuild his future with hope.

Despite everything, Juma is determined to move forward. Now in Form Two at Secondary School, he is focused on his education, striving for a brighter future. With the right support, he has a chance to break the cycle and build a better life.

Every child deserves to grow up in a safe, loving home.

Thank you to all our Defenders, for your monthly gifts that make a real, lasting impact. With your help, we are walking alongside children like Juma, ensuring they are not only reunited with family but also supported to thrive into adulthood.
